Lucky for you, I’m not one of those photographers who gatekeeps spots. In fact, I’m all about hyping up fellow creatives and helping my clients feel excited about their sessions. Whether you’re planning senior portraits in Oklahoma City, engagement photos, or a cozy family session, I’ve got you covered.
Here are my top five favorite free Oklahoma photography locations that I personally use again and again—and trust me, they never disappoint!
1. myriad botanical gardens
A Photographer’s Dream Year-Round!
If you’re looking for one of the most versatile photo locations in Oklahoma City, the Myriad Botanical Gardens is always a safe bet. This downtown gem offers something different each season: in the spring, the tulips burst into color and create a natural, dreamy backdrop. In the fall, the gardens transform into a warm, cinematic scene with rusty leaves and golden tones that are perfect for family, senior, or couple sessions. The only time I don’t recommend the gardens is during winter, since the area around the pond gets especially cold and can make sessions uncomfortable.
One of my favorite parts of this location is how many little hidden gems it offers. I love the stairs surrounding the ponds, the natural textures near Mo’s, and of course the iconic pond itself. For families, the nearby children’s park is a lifesaver! Many parents promise their kids some playtime as a reward after photos, which makes it both practical and fun!
When it comes to lighting, I recommend sunrise or sunset sessions here. The soft golden light really enhances the gardens’ beauty and helps avoid harsh shadows. Whether you’re planning a romantic engagement shoot, an elegant senior portrait, or a playful family session, the Myriad Botanical Gardens gives you both variety and timeless Oklahoma charm.

Since the gardens are a popular destination, it can get crowded during warmer months. My tip? Plan your session right at opening or just before closing to enjoy the space without interruption. Keep in mind that their hours change seasonally, so double-check before you go.

I love lining up the Devon Tower in the background for a dramatic city skyline shot—it adds a sleek, powerful energy to the photos. You can also shoot here at almost any time of day: golden hour is stunning, midday works well with open light, and you can even do night shoots with flash for a gritty, cinematic effect.
This spot is especially popular with high school seniors who want something fresh and different, but it also works well for couples who prefer a city-inspired look over nature-filled backdrops.
